The Beta is the most searched shell, and the questions are always the same: is the bird logo right, are the seams taped properly, and will it keep me dry? General shell waterproofing is in the [technical shell thread](https://superreps.net/t/can-rep-technical-shell-keep-you-dry/79); this one is Beta-specific: LT and AR.

What do QC photos actually show, and what only a test can tell you?

Start with what photos show.

Logo:

- Is the bird’s outline clean, with distinct feathers and no thread bridging between details?
- Is the wordmark spacing even and the embroidery dense, without the base fabric showing through?
- Is it placed and sized as on the reference, on the chest?

The logo is the most photographed detail, so it’s also where flaws get noticed first. Which checks do people skip?

The inside. Shouldn’t every Beta QC include a photo of the inside seams?

Seam tape:

- Narrow tape along every seam, including the hood and the shoulders.
- Flat, fully bonded, no lifting edges or bubbles.
- Tape at the hood and shoulder seams is where problems show.

- Main zip: laminated-style water-resistant zip, smooth run, no gaps at the ends
- Pit zips (if your version has them): same checks
- Hood: adjusters work, cord locks hold
- Cuffs: Velcro-style tabs close cleanly
- Tags: compare layout with a reference of the same version

Ending with a question: has anyone posted shower test results here yet?

That’s the part photos can’t show. The repeatable home test from the shell threads:

1. Hang the jacket zipped, hood up, on a hanger in the shower.
2. Run the shower over the shoulders and hood for a few minutes.
3. Check inside: shoulders, hood seams, zip ends, cuffs.
4. Dry patches inside = good. Damp spots at seams = tape problem. Damp all over = membrane problem.

</div>

Isn’t beading on the outside a bit misleading, though? Water beading is the surface coating, which wears off. The membrane and the seams keep you dry; beading doesn’t prove that. Shouldn’t the test always be judged from the inside?

Yes. And the [Macai thread](https://superreps.net/t/arcteryx-macai-rep-two-reviews/22) shows why one review isn’t enough: two units, two different results. Test your own.

- LT vs AR: AR is the heavier, more robust version; LT is lighter
- QC checks are the same; AR fabric should feel noticeably stiffer
- Ending with a question: does anyone still check the hang tags? Few people do

Summary for Beta LT/AR-style QC:

**From photos**

- Logo: clean bird outline, dense embroidery, even wordmark, correct placement.
- Inside seams: narrow tape on every seam, flat and fully bonded; check hood and shoulders closely.
- Zips: smooth, no gaps at the ends; pit zips if present.
- Hood adjusters, cord locks and cuff tabs work.
- Tags: layout against a reference of the same version.
- LT vs AR: same checks; AR fabric noticeably stiffer.

**Only a test shows**
Shower test: hung, zipped, hood up, a few minutes over shoulders and hood. Judge from the inside: dry is good; damp at seams = tape; damp all over = membrane. Outside beading is only the surface coating.

The [Gore-Tex-style shell guide](https://superreps.net/es/t/chaqueta-gore-tex-replica-impermeable-como-comprobar/23) has more detail on testing.

If you’ve done the shower test, post the inside at the shoulder afterwards; dry fabric around the seam tape is what you want to see.

Judge it from the inside. Agreed.
