No Runner QC thread yet. Reference points from Balenciaga’s own product page: the Runner is made of mesh and nylon, leather free, with a worn-out effect. The size is printed at the toe edge and embossed at the back, the Runner logo is printed on the exterior, the Balenciaga logo is embroidered on the tongue, there’s a logo at the heel and a pull-on tab at the back.

That worn-out effect is the tricky part: the original is meant to look used, so QC is about telling deliberate distressing from real defects.

The distressing first. On the original it’s part of the design, so look for distressing that looks intentional and consistent:

1. Frayed edges along the panel borders, not random tears in the middle of a panel.
2. Similar distressing on the left and right shoe, even if not identical.
3. Stitching that still holds the panels together under the frayed edge.
Loose threads that are clearly coming apart at a seam are a different thing. What can be fixed at home is in [sneaker flaws you can fix at home](https://superreps.net/t/sneaker-flaws-fix-at-home-glue-loose-threads/31691).

Newbie question: if the shoe is supposed to look worn, how do I know what a flaw even is?

Separate the two kinds of marks. Design marks: fraying and discolouration on edges and overlays, repeated on both shoes. Real flaws: glue stains on the sole edge, a panel that is lifting, a crooked overlay, stitching that skips. The sizes and logos, which are clean details on an otherwise rough-looking shoe:

1. The printed size at the toe edge: sharp digits, readable, not smudged into the distressing.
2. The embossed size at the back: even depth, digits straight.
3. The Runner logo printed on the exterior: crisp letters, consistent spacing.
4. The Balenciaga logo embroidered on the tongue: even stitch density, letters not running into each other.

The heel and tab. The heel logo should sit centred, and the pull-on tab at the back should be straight and attached cleanly. Ask for a shot of both heels side by side: that’s where differences between the left and right shoe show up most clearly.

Got it: distressing on edges and on both shoes is design, glue and lifting panels are flaws, and the printed and embossed sizes should be clean. How do these hold up over time?

Summary:

1. The worn-out effect is part of the design: look for consistent fraying on edges and overlays, similar on both shoes.
2. Real flaws: glue stains, lifting panels, crooked overlays, skipped or open stitching.
3. Sizes: printed size at the toe edge and embossed size at the back, both sharp and straight.
4. Logos: printed Runner logo crisp, tongue embroidery even, heel logo centred.
5. Heels: both side by side, the pull-on tab straight.
Long-term wear is a separate question, covered in [how long rep sneakers last](https://superreps.net/t/how-long-do-rep-sneakers-last-long-term-reviews/185).

Thanks. The side-by-side heel shot is the one I’d ask for first.
