# Bape Sta sizing: true to size like an AF1, or half down? Bape Sta sizing. Everyone says “same as an AF1”, but AF1s are already the shoe everyone sizes half down in. So which one: true to size or half down? Starting point: **Shape:** the Bape Sta is built on a shape very close to the Air Force 1, with a similar toe box. **Sizing:** most reports put it close to your AF1 size. If you go half down in AF1s, the same usually works here. If you wear AF1s true to size, stay true to size. Verdict first: use your AF1 size, not your “true” size. Myth to debunk: “Bape Stas run small”. Usually they don’t; the patent leather feels stiffer, so the first wears feel tighter. That isn’t the same as short. Recap: same as AF1. ---

Patent leather creases sharply rather than softly, and the coating can crack along deep creases over time. 1. Size right: a shoe that’s too long creases deeper. 2. Shoe trees when not wearing them. 3. Crease guards are an option; the [German crease thread](https://superreps.net/de/t/knickschutz-schuhspanner-falten-ledersneaker/187) compares them with trees. Do: trees, correct size. Don’t: heat to “smooth” creases on patent. It can damage the coating. ---

Score for “same as AF1” as advice: 8/10. Works for most. The two points off are for patent stiffness on the first wears, and toe box shape varying by version. Ask for an insole measurement in QC. ---

Summary: - **Size:** same as your AF1 size. Half down in AF1s → half down here; TTS in AF1s → TTS. - **Feels tight at first:** patent leather is stiff; that’s not the same as short. - **Creasing:** patent creases sharply and can crack along deep creases. Correct size, shoe trees, optional crease guards; no heat. - **QC:** ask for an insole length; toe box shape varies by version. AF1 size it is. Another photo angle from above would still help.
