Whenever people talk about spotting a fake Stone Island, everyone looks at the badge. But the badge is already covered in the [badge QC thread](https://superreps.net/t/stone-island-badge-qc-real-tells/204), and in my view it’s the most copied detail. My question: on a jacket, what does the fabric really tell you? Garment dyeing, Nylon Metal, the Ghost line: where do reps fall short? For a jacket, the most useful QC photos are the fabric in natural light, the inside seams and the badge from the side. I’ll start with garment dyeing, because it’s the most technical point. - **What it means:** the garment is sewn first and then dyed. So the stitching thread takes on the same colour as the fabric. - **What to look for:** seams in the same tone as the fabric, inside too. A thread in a different colour on a garment sold as garment-dyed is a warning sign. - **Normal variation:** slight tone differences on seams, edges and pockets are typical of the process, on authentic pieces too. A perfectly flat colour everywhere is more suspicious than a small variation. ---

I’m sceptical about photos for Nylon Metal, but you can see some things: 1. **Reflections:** Nylon Metal has an iridescent effect and changes tone with the light. Reps often look flat or simply shiny. 2. **Hand:** thin but crisp fabric, with sharp creases. If it looks soft and droopy in photos, something’s off. 3. **Creases:** in photos, the creases should reflect light differently from the rest of the garment. And the Ghost line? There the badge is tone on tone, right? So the fabric matters even more. ---

Exactly. On Ghost pieces: - The badge is monochrome, the same colour as the garment, without the coloured compass rose. - No contrasts: buttons, zips and seams are all tonal. - The judgement shifts to fabric, cut and finishing. A Ghost piece with the right badge but poor fabric is obvious in person. The principle is the same as in the [wool overcoat thread](https://superreps.net/t/wool-overcoat-rep-quality-composition-label-drape/273): the label doesn’t tell the whole story. ---

What about Stone Island caps? I see people often asking about a “fake stone island cap”. ---

Caps are a separate case: the badge is small and often embroidered or appliquéd, so mistakes show less. Worth checking: - logo proportions relative to the front panel; - stitching on the brim, even and parallel; - inside label, sewn on straight. But with so little fabric, a cap QC stays less reliable than a jacket QC. ---

One last thing: technical seams. Some models have taped seams inside. Straight tape, no bubbles or lifted edges: it’s the same check you do on technical shells, explained well in the [Arc’teryx Beta thread](https://superreps.net/t/arcteryx-beta-lt-ar-rep-qc-seams-shower-test/282). ---

Clear and concrete. I’d never have used flash on Nylon Metal.
