A question of method, from someone who usually does QC on watches: the Jordan 1 High Chicago “Lost & Found” has a **deliberately cracked** collar, meant to look aged and different on every pair.

How do you judge something like that from photos? A normal checklist doesn’t work: if the flaw is intentional, what’s right and what isn’t? Current confidence: low, hence the question.

Shape first, then the collar.

Shape: same AJ1 High checks as always. Heel not too tall or too curved. Swoosh not undersized. Wings logo not oversized.

Collar cracking: from rep-vs-retail threads, retail cracking is pronounced and fine, almost suede-like in texture. A common flaw is cracking that’s too faint or too regular.

</div>

Exactly, and here’s the paradox: on retail the cracks **change from pair to pair**. So how can you say a rep is “wrong”? To be verified, I’d say.

You judge the _character_ of the cracking, not the exact pattern:

- Pass: dense, fine, irregular cracks across the whole black collar.
- Flag: a few large cracks, cracks that look printed, or the same repeating pattern on both shoes.

The last point is useful. Natural-looking ageing shouldn’t be identical left and right.

Do the different batches differ much on this? I’ve seen people say some are better at the cracking than others.

Reports, not measurements: in older rep-vs-retail threads, GD was praised for visible collar cracking and close shape. Another comment said PK and similar had less fine cracking. A recent LJR review called its collar cracking especially good. Restocks change, so QC the pair.

What about the midsole? On retail it should be an “aged” cream colour. In some QC photos it looks almost yellow.

Colour from warehouse photos is low confidence. Ask for a daylight shot next to a white reference, such as a sheet of paper. Then it’s a fair comparison.

</div>

Small warning for later: don’t try to “fix” cracking or the aged midsole on this one. It’s the design. Cleaning products or de-yellowing would erase the whole point of the shoe.

Right, let me sum it up the way I’d do it on the court: simple and in order.

**1. Shape (like every AJ1 High)**

- Heel not too tall or too curved.
- Swoosh not undersized.
- Wings logo not too big.

**2. Cracked collar: judge the character, not the pattern**

- ✅ Dense, fine, irregular cracks across the whole black collar, with an almost suede-like effect.
- ⚠ A few big cracks, cracks that look printed, or the exact same pattern on the right and left shoe.

[[PHOTO: close-up of the black collar on both shoes side by side, showing the crack pattern on each]]

**3. Midsole and “vintage” details**

- Ask for a daylight photo next to a white sheet of paper before judging the cream colour.

**4. Batches**

- The positive reports on GD and, more recently, on LJR are specifically about the collar, but every restock needs checking on its own.

**5. After it arrives**

- Don’t clean the collar aggressively and don’t whiten the midsole: the “ageing” is part of the model.

What about you, did you first see the Chicago in 1985, in 2015, or straight away with the Lost & Found? 🏀

Good summary. Left/right identical pattern = flag. Adding that to my AJ1 template.

Love that the answer is “judge the character”. Same logic works for any pre-aged pair. Marking-worthy!
