Good one. Let me start with how each style gets used, because that decides where it wears. 1. **Backpack:** all the weight hangs from two strap anchors at the top. Those anchors and the shoulder strap stitching take everything. 2. **Briefcase:** carried by the handle, so the handle attachment and the base corners wear first. 3. **Messenger:** one long strap across the body. The strap, its hardware and the edge paint along it do all the work. Find the weak point of the style, then QC that part twice. ---

Verdict first: for a laptop every day, a **nylon or coated canvas backpack** is the most forgiving rep choice. Why: nylon and coated canvas don’t crease or scuff like smooth leather, and a laptop’s weight is spread over two straps instead of one handle. Like a building on two columns instead of one, it’s simply under less stress. Leather briefcases look sharper and are much less forgiving. A structured leather briefcase shows every sag, and the handle takes a lot of load. ---

Verdict: agree on nylon, disagree on “most forgiving” for canvas. Coated canvas backpacks look great, but the straps are often leather or vachetta-type trim. That’s where they wear, darken and crack. A canvas body with leather straps ages unevenly. Check what the straps are made of before deciding. ---

If you only care about something that still looks right after months of daily carry: - Nylon backpack: least maintenance, wear is barely visible. - Coated canvas messenger: holds up well, but the long strap’s edges and hardware need checking. - Leather briefcase: most refined look, most care, and the most obvious when the quality is off. ---

It’s a good detail to check: 1. Is there a padded sleeve, or just a divider? Without padding, the laptop’s corners press on the base and outer panel. 2. Is the sleeve stitched to the side seams, or floating? A floating sleeve sags. 3. Does the zip open wide enough? A tight opening stresses the zip ends every time. Ask for a photo of the inside with the bag open flat. Easy to check, and it tells you a lot. ---

One more: hardware weight on backpacks. Heavy metal plates and buckles look premium but pull a soft backpack forward. Lighter is often better on nylon. ---
