The 530 comes from the nineties running world, and it shows: mesh upper, lots of synthetic overlays (often with metallic details), the big N on the side, a layered midsole with cut-outs. We already have a thread on the 2002R but none on the 530 yet, and yet there are plenty of QC questions, precisely because of the layers. Where do you start? TL;DR: the N and the overlays first, the midsole after. The N should be in proportion, with even stitching along the edge, and placed at the same height on both shoes. Metallic overlays reflect light differently on every photo, so judge their shape and position, not their shine. ---

Pros of the 530 for QC: the overall shape is easy to read from the side. Cons: the midsole has several layers and cut-outs, and small glue or alignment differences there are common even on retail pairs. The method for the N and for the mesh-to-suede balance is the same as in [New Balance 2002R QC](https://superreps.net/t/new-balance-2002r-qc-n-logo-suede-mesh-midsole/412). ---

- Mesh: even weave, no pulled threads. - Overlays: evenly stitched edges, nothing lifting. - Tongue: label straight and centred. - Heel: logo and reinforcement symmetrical. - Box and label: only to check that model and size match. Mostly yes: overlays, mesh and glue are the same topics, as in [Gel-Kayano 14 and Gel-1130 QC](https://superreps.net/t/gel-kayano-14-gel-1130-qc-overlays-mesh-gel-window-silver/358). The difference is that on the 530 the N is the focal point, so that’s where to pay more attention. ---

Great. For the 530 I’d only add a photo in natural light, because metallic overlays change a lot under artificial light.
