For the 550 we only had a sizing thread ([New Balance 550 vs. 9060](https://superreps.net/t/new-balance-550-vs-9060-sizing/182)), no QC. According to New Balance, the 550 was born in 1989 as a low-top basketball shoe and returned to the catalogue at the end of 2020. Other New Balance models already have their own QC: [2002R](https://superreps.net/t/new-balance-2002r-qc-n-logo-suede-mesh-midsole/412) and [1906R](https://superreps.net/t/new-balance-1906r-qc-n-logo-mesh-layers-sole-stability-web/31701). It’s a classic basketball design with large panels, so cutting and stitching errors show up clearly in photos. The N logo first: 1. Centred on the side panel, at the same height on both shoes. 2. Edges cut cleanly and the stitching at a constant distance from the edge. 3. The N shape with the proportions of the official photo, with no diagonal that’s thicker or tilted. ---

Newbie question: the toe has little holes. Does it matter if they’re not perfectly aligned? ---

Yes, it’s one of the details people notice most. In photos: 1. The perforations in straight rows, with the same spacing. 2. The same size across the whole toe. 3. The same pattern on both shoes. 4. The shape of the toe: compare it with the official photo from above, with no tip that’s higher or flatter. ---

Tongue and heel. The tongue label centred and with crisp letters. At the heel: the logo straight and the heel counter symmetrical when both shoes are photographed from behind. The sole. Since it’s low-profile, the bonding line between the upper and the sole is visible all the way round: it should be continuous, with no glue residue or gaps.
