Dear members, here is a short review of the official press releases published this week about seizures of counterfeit goods. I think it’s worth looking, with some perspective, at what’s happening beyond our hobby. I’m sticking to what the authorities have stated; the links are at the bottom.

- **United States, Indianapolis (CBP).** On 14 October, at the express cargo hub, officers intercepted a parcel shipped from Hong Kong to Illinois. It contained **300 watches** bearing the Audemars Piguet brand, judged counterfeit by the agency’s experts.
- **Hong Kong (Customs).** In September, at the Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal, around **20,000 suspected items** were seized from two containers: phones, spare parts, watches and shoes. According to the investigation, the goods were due to be re-exported.
- **Thailand, Port of Bangkok.** In a container from China: **4,515 pairs of shoes and 350 bags** , undeclared and bearing counterfeit brands.
- **Vietnam, Hanoi.** Two shops owned by the same woman were inspected; **2,893 bags** were seized, mostly Louis Vuitton-branded, followed by Chanel, Dior, Gucci and YSL.
- **South Africa, Johannesburg.** A joint operation in the city centre led to the seizure of **more than 62,000 items** : clothing, shoes, watches, jewellery and eyewear.

Two observations, without claiming to analyse anything. Watches and shoes appear in almost every release. And these are mostly large commercial volumes: entire containers and shops.

Please discuss this news with your usual restraint. As the rules state, no advice on getting around inspections is allowed. In your view, do episodes like these affect the availability or shipping times people talk about in the communities?
