The Perpetual 1908 came out in 2023 and still doesn’t have a QC thread. The fixed points, from Rolex’s own pages: 39 mm case, 9.5 mm thick, water resistant to 50 metres, transparent case back; split bezel, with the upper part domed and the lower part fluted; calibre 7140, self-winding, developed for this model and fitted only to it, with about 66 hours of power reserve. On the dial: Arabic numerals 3, 9 and 12, faceted hour markers, Breguet-style hour hand, double-line sword-shaped minute hand and small seconds at 6 o’clock, topped by the words “Superlative Chronometer” in an arc.

Why it matters: it’s a classic, thin watch, where every proportion shows.

Bezel, pros and cons of what you see in photos:

- Pro: the division between the domed part and the fluted part is easy to read at three-quarters. The line should be crisp and the fluting even all the way round, with no wider teeth.
- Con: straight on, the domed part reflects a lot and hides defects. You need at least one three-quarter photo.
For fluting in general you can compare with the [fluted bezel of the Datejust 36](https://superreps.net/t/datejust-36-qc-fluted-bezel-jubilee-wimbledon-dial/431), which is different though: there’s no domed part there.

Quick question: is the small seconds at 6 o’clock the only subdial? And does the text above it really have to be in an arc?

Yes, it’s the only subdial: the 7140 shows hours, minutes and small seconds, no date. The words “Superlative Chronometer” follow the arc above the subdial; they should be centred and on an even curve, not broken. The subdial itself should sit exactly on the 12-6 axis, and its hand should reach the subdial’s minute track without going past it.

Hands and markers, with the measurements that matter:

- Breguet-style hour hand: the pierced “apple” should be round and centred on the body of the hand;
- double-line sword-shaped minute hand: long enough to reach the minute track;
- faceted markers: the facets reflect differently, so in photos they should change light evenly from one marker to the next.
Score for the most useful details in photos: Breguet hand 9/10, markers 7/10, numerals 6/10.

</div>

And the profile? 9.5 mm is not much for a Rolex. A photo at 9 o’clock shows straight away whether the case looks thick or the domed crystal sticks out too much. On a leather strap the watch reads differently: for proportions on the wrist there’s the thread [dress watches on leather](https://superreps.net/t/dress-watch-leather-strap-wristshots-what-makes-it-read-right/343).

Transparent case back, pros and cons:

- Pro: Rolex describes the bridges with “Côtes de Genève Rolex” decoration and an openworked gold oscillating weight. These are details you can see in photos.
- Con: the photo shows the decoration, not how it works. Finishes are easier to read with the guide [satin or polished in QC photos](https://superreps.net/t/brushed-or-polished-reading-finishes-watch-qc-photos/31687).

Summary:

1. Split bezel: domed upper part, fluted lower part; crisp line and even fluting, to be seen at three-quarters.
2. Dial: numerals 3, 9 and 12, faceted markers, no date; small seconds at 6 o’clock on the 12-6 axis with the arched text centred.
3. Hands: Breguet-style hour hand with the apple round and centred, sword-shaped minute hand reaching the minute track.
4. Profile at 9 o’clock: thin 9.5 mm case, domed crystal without excessive protrusion.
5. Case back: Côtes de Genève Rolex and openworked weight visible; how it works is not.
Not checkable in photos: water resistance, accuracy and the movement itself.

Thanks. The three-quarter photo for the bezel and the 9 o’clock one for the thickness are the first to ask for.
