Because it’s simple, flattering and impossible to check from a listing. Here’s the summary I’d give any newcomer:

**Where the myth comes from**

- Brands contract out production, often in the same regions where copies are made. Region ≠ factory.
- Some early high-end copies were reportedly made with leaked samples or blueprints, which fed the story.
- “Same factory” also works as a marketing line: it answers quality questions in advance.

**What the terms mean**

| Term | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| B-grade / factory second | genuine pair with a flaw, released with the brand’s consent |
| UA (“unauthorised authentic”) | a label for copies, with an origin story nobody has shown evidence for |
| Batch names (LJR, GX, PK…) | names for copy productions, see [batch names explained](https://superreps.net/t/batch-names-explained-what-do-ljr-gx-pk-and-the-rest-actually-mean/191) |

**Why quality is not proof of origin**

- Reverse engineering from retail pairs can get very close on shape and materials.
- Close-to-retail quality tells you about the batch, not about where it was made.

**What to do instead**

- Judge each pair on its QC photos and on [long-term reviews](https://superreps.net/t/how-long-do-rep-sneakers-actually-last-what-the-3-6-and-12-month-reviews-say/185), not on an origin story.
- Treat “same factory” as a warning sign in any pitch, especially from people who contact you first. See [staying safe](https://superreps.net/t/staying-safe-scams-fake-middlemen-and-privacy/106).

When you post a pair for QC, include the standard angles (side profile, toe box, heel, sole) so it’s judged on what the photos show, not on its claimed origin.
