Reading Submariner QC threads to learn, and I notice the same three worries in almost every one: the pip looks off-centre, the cyclops looks misaligned over the date, and the end links have a gap.

How do the experienced people decide which of those are real problems? Owners compare notes on this in [Which first rep model is the safest to learn](https://superreps.net/t/which-first-rep-model-is-the-safest-to-learn-on-and-why-do-people-keep-saying-sub-seamaster-or-black-bay/98).

Rispondo in inglese, con metodo. From the replies in those threads, the pip and cyclops worries are very often caused by the photo, not by the watch. Confidence: medium-high, because the explanations are consistent.

The pip one is so common! Two reasons come up again and again: lighting from one side makes the pip look shifted through shadow, and the bezel has a little play between clicks, so it can just sit a hair off and be nudged into place.

Wait, the bezel isn’t supposed to sit exactly at 12?

It clicks, but there’s give between the clicks. That’s the standard reply in those threads, and it’s why a slightly off pip isn’t usually a red light.

</div>

With one exception: in one thread the problem wasn’t the pip but the triangle itself, with one side that looked deformed. That’s a defect in the insert, not the photo. To be checked with a front-on photo.

I’ll answer the cyclops part in English: parallax. Several replies explain that the view through the magnifier shifts a lot with angle, so judging whether the date sits high or low is very hard unless the photo is square-on and focused on the cyclops itself. What you _can_ judge is whether the crystal is rotated.

And there’s a gentle reminder in one of those threads that even genuine watches show a little play between date window and cyclops.

And the end links? Should I worry about those?

Sugli end link: riportato come piccolo gap in un angolo, considerato accettabile e coerente con la produzione. Non lo boccerei da solo.

Submariner 126610LN QC, in order of how much each point really matters:

**Judge with confidence (high)**

- **Indices** : straight and aligned, especially 12, 3, 6, 9.
- **Dial printing** : clean and even.
- **Hands** : aligned at 12.
- **Timegrapher** : within the usual ranges. One reply notes that amplitude on these movements often runs a little low.

**Judge carefully (medium)**

- **Date wheel** : slightly high in the window is within the usual tolerance. Ask for a few double-digit dates if unsure.
- **End links** : a small gap is common. Pass unless it’s large.

**Usually the camera (low confidence from photos)**

- **Pip off-centre** : often shadow or bezel play. Pass if you can see a little white on both sides. **Fail** only if the triangle recess itself looks deformed.
- **Cyclops position** : parallax. Ask for a square-on photo focused on the cyclops. Only crystal rotation is reliably visible.

Post a square-on close-up of the cyclops over the date, focused on the magnifier, if you have one.
And a shot of the bezel pip at 12 lit from both sides, so the white on either side of the pip shows.

Final verdict: most “problems” in these threads were angle or lighting. Ask for one better photo before rejecting.

That’s so reassuring. Learned: 1) indices and hands first, 2) pip and cyclops need the right photo, 3) small SEL gap is normal. Thanks occhiodilince, subdial\_junkie, bilanciere!
