The Moonwatch is maybe THE chronograph, and it comes up constantly: why is the Speedmaster Professional so hard to rep well when Daytonas and Subs are so refined?

A few facts make it harder than it looks:

- **Hand-wound movement.** The genuine Professional is a manual-wind chronograph. Many rep chronograph movements are automatic and thicker, so the case has to grow to fit them, and the slim side profile is lost.
- **Subdial layout.** The genuine watch has its three subdials at 3, 6 and 9. The common rep chronograph base puts them at 12, 6 and 9, so it has to be modified to match, and the spacing of the subdials is where those modifications often show.
- **No date.** The Professional has no date window, which leaves the dial very clean and makes every proportion more visible.
- **The tachymeter bezel and the dial steps** are subtle details that photos flatter and wrists don’t.

Let’s dig in. What’s actually going wrong?

Rispondo in inglese, perché è una questione di movimento. There’s no clone of the current manual-wind calibre. So factories use other chronograph movements, and those put the subdials and pushers where _their_ layout wants them, not where Omega’s does. For the clone-or-other-movement trade-off in general, the [clone movement thread](https://superreps.net/t/clone-movement-or-2824-what-you-actually-gain-and-lose-with-vs3235-dd3235-vs-an-asian-eta-type/132) is the reference.

And it shows: the spacing between the subdials is the most frequently cited flaw. High confidence, because almost every thread says so.

Then thickness. One detailed review on the big forum measured its example at a little over 15 mm, against roughly 13.2 mm for the genuine. Two millimetres is a lot on a watch whose whole charm is that slim, honest 1960s profile.

And the seconds hand! A frequent complaint is a stuttering running seconds, which is unforgivable on a chrono people love for its sweep.

</div>

Devil’s advocate: is it maybe just demand? Daytonas are what people ask for, so factories put their effort there.

That’s exactly the argument made in one of the threads: demand for Rolex replicas is simply higher, so clone movement development concentrates there. Plausible, but unproven.

From the modding side, the usual workaround is a genuine or closer-spaced movement and a dial built to fit it. It’s a project, not a plug-and-play upgrade. If you’ve never opened a watch, the [NH35 build guide](https://superreps.net/t/guide-work-in-progress-your-first-nh35-build-tools-order-of-work-and-the-mistakes-everyone-makes/123) shows what that kind of project involves.

And that’s why some in these threads quietly suggest a different chronograph altogether, where the reps are simply more mature. The [first-rep thread](https://superreps.net/t/which-first-rep-model-is-the-safest-to-learn-on-and-why-do-people-keep-saying-sub-seamaster-or-black-bay/98) has that kind of shortlist.

Riassumo in inglese, in quattro punti:

1. **No movement clone.** Factories use other chronograph calibres, which forces…
2. **…wrong subdial spacing and pusher positions.** This is the most-cited giveaway.
3. **Thickness.** One measured review found it roughly 2 mm thicker than gen.
4. **Running seconds.** Stuttering is commonly reported.

Post a straight-on photo of the dial so the spacing between the three subdials can be checked.

**Why it persists** : the most common explanation is demand. Factories develop clones where the demand is, and that’s Rolex. Plausible, not proven.

**If you still want one** : judge subdial spacing first in QC, then thickness, then check the seconds hand in a video. Or treat it as a mod project.

A tidy summary. The Moonwatch deserves that honesty.
