The Black Bay 58 is a lovely nod to Tudor’s late-1950s divers, with that slim case and the snowflake hands. It’s also one of the most-recommended Tudor reps. There is more detail in [Black Bay 54, 58 or 39](https://superreps.net/t/black-bay-54-58-or-39-which-tudor-size-reps-best-and-where-does-each-one-fall-short/295).

I’ve been gathering the long-term reports on the ZF version. Owners compare notes on this in [VSF Seamaster 300M long-term](https://superreps.net/t/vsf-seamaster-300m-long-term-what-owners-report-after-a-year-or-more-and-that-crown-tube-question/109). Shall we put together an honest picture: what holds up, and what doesn’t?

Go on then. Pluses first.

Plenty of owners describe years of regular wear without trouble: daily wear, travel, some on straps. ZF is described in those threads as a top-tier factory for Tudor.

Rispondo in inglese. The QC point repeated most: the 3, 6 and 9 markers are often crooked. One commenter says “almost always”, which may be exaggerated, but it’s a consistent pattern. Also mentioned: crown tube length and the clasp mechanism. Check both in QC.

And on the movement: it’s a 2824-type. One owner reports four good years before it started stopping or jumping ahead. Another reports a failure within six months. Both happen. Neither is the whole story.

So when it breaks: fix or replace?

That’s the interesting part of the service thread. A full repair was described as hardly worth it compared with a swap, so the replies suggest a replacement movement fitted by a watchmaker. Some mention a Swiss Sellita SW200, a close 2824 relative, as the upgrade route. A practical choice, not a failure of the watch.

From the modding side, a couple of comfort tweaks come up: smoothing the sharp edges on the back of the bracelet, and fitting thicker spring bars because the stock ones feel thin.

Prima una nota: nei thread più vecchi il blu viene considerato più vicino all’originale del nero. Opinione ricorrente, non misurata.

Rispondo in inglese, con livelli di certezza. Summary of the long-term reports:

**What holds up**

- Many owners report years of regular wear, with ZF regarded as the go-to factory for this model.
- Looks are widely praised. The blue is often called closer to gen than the black.

**What to check before it ships**

- **Markers at 3, 6 and 9** : the most frequent QC issue by far.
- **Crown tube length**.
- **Clasp mechanism** : make sure it works properly.

[[PHOTO: Black Bay 58 dial straight-on, showing the 3, 6 and 9 markers for alignment]]

**What to expect over time**

- The 2824-type movement can last for years, but early failures are reported too.
- When it fails, the community leans towards a movement swap (an Asian 2824-type or a genuine SW200) rather than a full repair.

**Small comfort tweaks**

- Smooth the sharp bracelet edges; consider thicker spring bars.

Fair and balanced. Verdict: a strong choice if the markers pass QC.
