Laptop tote for daily use: Goyard Anjou or LV OnTheGo, which holds up better under weight?

Not a “first bag” question and not a version comparison. The existing Saint-Louis and Neverfull threads cover those. Owners compare notes on this in Goyard Saint-Louis: comparing versions without getting lost in factory. This is about one job: a tote that carries a laptop every day. There is more detail in Saint Louis PM or GM as a first tote. Anjou-style or OnTheGo-style?

Pros of each, as far as I know:

  • Anjou: reversible, light, one side leather.
  • OnTheGo: two sets of handles, a more structured body.

Cons: unknown. That’s the question.

Related threads: the thread on Men’s daily carry.

OnTheGo-style first.

Pros:

  • Structured body: a laptop doesn’t pull it out of shape as much.
  • Two ways to carry: short top handles and longer shoulder straps.
  • Coated canvas body is tough.

Cons:

  • Heavier empty.
  • The handle attachments take all the laptop weight. Check their stitching in QC.

Verdict on the Anjou-style: lighter and more comfortable on the shoulder, but softer under weight.

  • It’s reversible: one side coated canvas, the other leather. The leather side is the one that shows wear and laptop-corner dents.
  • It has no structure of its own, so a laptop makes the base sag into a V unless you add a base shaper or a pouch.
  • The handles are long and thin. With a heavy load they dig into the shoulder.

If you only care about the laptop staying protected and the bag keeping its shape, the OnTheGo-style is the safer pick. If you only care about weight on the shoulder, the Anjou-style is.

One thing both share: neither has a padded sleeve. A separate padded sleeve inside solves most of the problems in this thread at once.

Good point on the sleeve. Which one holds up longer in the follow-up posts?

From the long-term posts:

  • OnTheGo-style: handle edge paint and the handle attachments are where wear shows. The canvas looks the same for a long time.
  • Anjou-style: the leather side scuffs and creases, the handle edges wear, and the painted canvas chevrons can rub at the corners.

Neither is fragile. They just wear in different places.

One disagreement: people say the Anjou-style “sags”, as if it’s a flaw. On the original it’s soft by design. Sagging under a laptop is the bag being itself. The fix is a base insert, not a different batch.

Summary for a daily laptop tote:

OnTheGo-style: the better choice if shape and protection matter most.

  • Structured body that keeps its shape under a laptop.
  • Two carry options.
  • Heavier; check handle attachment stitching and handle edges in QC.

Anjou-style: the better choice if lightness and shoulder comfort matter most.

  • Light, reversible, soft by design.
  • Needs a base insert or pouch to stop the V-shaped sag.
  • The leather side shows dents and scuffs first; long thin handles dig in under heavy loads.

For both: add a padded laptop sleeve, and ask for QC close-ups of handle attachments and handle edges.

Could someone post both totes side by side with a laptop in a padded sleeve? It shows how much softer the Anjou-style base is.

Pros: clear split by priority. Cons: none. OnTheGo-style for structure, Anjou-style for weight.
