New Balance 1906R QC: N logo, mesh and synthetic layers, and the sole with Stability Web

There’s no QC thread for the 1906R yet. Background: it’s the reissue, released in 2022, of a New Balance running shoe from 2009, with a sole based on the 860v2. According to the brand’s description, the midsole combines ACTEVA LITE, N-ergy and ABZORB SBS pods in the heel, with Stability Web as arch support.

For QC there are three clear zones: the N logo, the upper layers and the sole.

The N logo:

  • shape and thickness compared with reference photos of the same colour;
  • clean edges and even stitching around it;
  • same position on the side of both shoes.
    It’s the same approach as on other models from the brand, as in 2002R QC.

The upper layers: many colourways have synthetic pieces with a metallic sheen over mesh. Check that the edges of each layer are cut cleanly, with no visible glue, and that the mesh doesn’t wrinkle underneath. On metallic layers and mesh, 530 QC also helps, since it has a similar construction.

Question: the sole has lots of different pieces. Which part can you actually check on a photo?

What’s visible: the Stability Web piece in the middle of the sole, which should be clean and well centred; the ABZORB SBS pods on the side of the heel, with sharp edges; and the join line between midsole and upper, without glue residue. What you can’t see is the cushioning: a piece looking right says nothing about how it responds underfoot.

Heel and tongue:

  1. Tongue label centred, sharp lettering.
  2. Heel from behind: both shoes symmetrical.
  3. Heel counter without wrinkles.
  4. Eyelets at the same height on both shoes.

For anyone just starting with sneaker QC photos who doesn’t know what GL or RL mean: how to read sneaker QC photos.

Summary:

  1. N logo: shape and thickness as on reference photos, clean edges, same position on both.
  2. Mesh and synthetic layers: clean edges, no glue, mesh without wrinkles.
  3. Sole: Stability Web clean and centred, heel pods sharp, join without glue.
  4. Heel and tongue: symmetrical and centred.
    Not checkable on photos: cushioning, durability and grip.

Thanks. The sole photo is the one people forget most often on this model.
