Off-White Out of Office question. For Jordan 1s or Dunks there’s always a batch everyone names. For the Out of Office, every “best batch for these?” thread I find ends with almost no real answer, just listings. Is there actually a reference version, and if not, how do you compare the ones on offer?
Short answer: there isn’t a single name with a track record like LJR on Jordan 1s, and the threads show it. People asking “best possible batch” get links, not comparisons. That doesn’t mean they’re all bad. It means you have to compare the details yourself instead of trusting a name. If the batch names in general are confusing, batch names explained covers how they work.
First, be clear which shoe you’re comparing, because “Out of Office” covers several versions:
- Low in leather, the most common;
- Low in suede, which people say they looked for for a long time;
- “For Walking”, with the quoted text on the side;
- Mid, in leather.
A detail that’s good on one version tells you nothing about another, so compare like with like.
On suede vs leather: suede hides small stitching flaws but shows colour and nap differences in photos. Leather shows every stitch and every glue mark, but colour is easier to judge. If you’re new to reading QC photos, a leather low is the easier one to check, using the method in first time reading sneaker QC photos.
So what do you actually compare between two versions of the same low?
Four things, in this order:
- The arrow on the side: shape, the spacing between the arrows, and whether the edges are clean or rounded off. A blobby arrow is the first thing people notice.
- The text: on the For Walking pair, the quoted text. Check letter spacing and alignment along the panel, not just the spelling.
- The zip tie: colour, the printing on it, and how it’s attached. Easy to replace, but it shows up in every photo.
- The sole: the edge, the pattern and the toe shape from the side.
On the toe shape: like on most low tops, the side profile is what gives a pair away when worn, much more than a tag. Ask for a side photo of both shoes at the same height. If one version has a bulky or flat toe, it will look like that every day.
A QC request on a black and white pair with a black tail asked only “is it GL?”. That’s the hardest way to get help. Post the side profile, the arrow close up, the text and the zip tie, and say which version it is. Then people can actually compare.
Context from older Off-White threads: the same pattern happened with The Ten, where the same question kept coming back because the answer depended on the exact model. The Out of Office is similar: the answer is per version, not per brand.
How to compare Out of Office versions when there’s no reference batch:
- Pick the version first: low leather, low suede, For Walking or mid. Compare only like with like.
- Arrow: clean edges, even spacing, not rounded off.
- Text (For Walking): spacing and alignment along the panel.
- Zip tie: colour and printing; least important, because it’s replaceable.
- Side profile and toe: both shoes at the same height. This is what shows when worn.
- Leather is easier to judge than suede in photos, especially for a first pair.
Don’t choose on a name nobody can back up with photos. Choose on these points.
That helps. Side profile and the arrow close up first, then decide.
