Search tips: find the answer before you ask

Many questions on SuperReps have already been answered in detail. Searching first gets you an answer straight away, and if you still need to ask, you’ll be able to ask a much better question.

The basics

  • Click the magnifying glass at the top of any page. Results update as you type.
  • Use model names and references rather than nicknames alone, and try both: “GMT” and the reference, “flap” and the size.
  • Search for the symptom, not just the item: “date window shifted”, “toe box creasing”, “edge paint cracking”.
  • Try the term from the SuperReps Glossary: “rehaut”, “SEL”, “vachetta”, “pit to pit”.

Advanced search filters

Open the full search page and use the options, or type filters directly:

Read the solved answer, then the thread

The Solved answer is the one that settled the original question, but later replies often add newer information, especially when a batch has been updated. Skim to the end.

Old information

Some threads discuss older batches that are no longer produced. That’s still useful for learning the tells, but check whether the advice applies to what’s made now before relying on it.

“Which is the best…?” is a weak question

“Which is the best version of X?” has no single answer: it depends on which details matter most to you and what you’re willing to accept. It also tends to start the same argument again. Try instead:

  • “Which batch gets the dial colour closest to the original?”
  • “What are the known tells of the current batch of X, and which can be fixed?”
  • “I care most about case shape: which version gets it right?”

These questions get specific, useful answers, and they help the next person who searches.

Still can’t find it?

Ask in the Newbie Corner of the right section, and mention what you searched for and what you found. See posting guide.
