Dior B23 QC: the Oblique canvas, the transparent panels and the sole, what to look at in photos

On Dior we already have a B22 review (B22 after a month) and one of the B30 (B30, sizing and comfort), but there’s no QC of the B23, which is the most recognisable. From the Dior product page: high-top sneaker in Dior Oblique canvas with transparent technical panels, white rubber sole, two-tone toe, back tab, made in Italy.

The key point is one: with the transparent panels, the Oblique pattern shows both under and outside the panels, so any alignment defect jumps out.

But does the Oblique pattern have to be aligned in a specific way? In some photos the letters look crooked.

Yes, and it’s the first thing to look at. Three checks:

  • the rows of the pattern must be parallel to each other and run straight along the whole panel;
  • the letters must not be cut in half differently on the right and left shoe;
  • where the canvas meets the stitching, the pattern must not ripple.
    Crooked canvas is like a striped shirt buttoned wrong: you can see it from a distance.

Transparent panels: they must be smooth, with no bubbles and no cloudy patches. The edge of the panel is stitched, so the stitching must run parallel to the edge, with an even pitch. Against the light you can see if the panel is wavy. At the back, the back tab must be straight and centred, at the same height on both shoes.

And the two-tone toe? How much does it matter in a QC?

It matters, because it’s the point where the canvas meets another material. Check:

  1. the dividing line between the two colours, crisp and symmetrical on both shoes;
  2. the shape of the toe, the same on the right and left;
  3. the white rubber sole: clean edge, with no visible glue where it meets the upper.

OK. And what about how long the canvas and panels last?

Summary:

  1. Dior Oblique canvas: parallel rows, letters cut the same way on both shoes, no ripples at the stitching.
  2. Transparent panels: smooth, no bubbles or cloudy patches, stitching parallel to the edge.
  3. Back tab straight and centred, at the same height.
  4. Two-tone toe: crisp, symmetrical line.
  5. White rubber sole: clean edge, no visible glue.
    Durability can’t be judged from photos: for that there’s the thread how long sneakers last, with reviews at 3, 6 and 12 months.

Thanks. The pair from above to check the pattern is the photo I’ll ask for first.
