Pochette Métis QC: strap holes, the tab and the clasp, as the older reviews saw it

The Pochette Métis was one of the most-reviewed bags in the old RepLadies days. Reading those older reviews, the same three checks keep appearing: strap holes, the leather tab, and the clasp. If that is your question too, see the thread on Speedy Bandoulière worn crossbody.

Let’s put the old knowledge in one place and flag what still holds. The versions in those reviews are older batches, mostly no longer produced.

Strap holes first. One detailed review notes that older versions of the genuine strap had 7 holes and newer ones have 5, with two overlapping stitches at the strap end. Flag: medium confidence. It’s one review, but it’s precise.

Wait, so 7 holes isn’t automatically wrong?

Correct. It depends which genuine version the rep is copying. Pass or fail only makes sense against the right reference.

The tab is the one I see everywhere. One older review title literally says the owner cut the tab, because it was too long.

Yes. The tab above the clasp should sit correctly against the monogram flower. A tab that’s too long or asymmetric is the common flaw. Recent QC threads show the same check, so this one never went away.

And the clasp, darling. The S-lock should be aligned and the engraving shouldn’t look shallow. That’s from a recent QC thread, but it applies to every version.

One more for the vachetta: it darkens with time on genuine bags too, so pale tabs in PSP are normal. Don’t judge colour, judge shape and stitching.

Pochette Métis QC, flag by flag:

From the older reviews

  • Strap holes: older genuine straps had 7, newer ones 5 with overlapping end stitches. Flag only against the version being copied. (medium confidence)
  • Tab length: too long or asymmetric was the most common flaw. Flag if clearly off. (high)

Still checked in recent QC threads

  • Tab position relative to the monogram flower. (high)
  • Clasp alignment and engraving depth. Flag if crooked or shallow. (high)

Not a flaw

  • Pale vachetta: it darkens with time. Pass.

If you own one, post the front with the tab, clasp and monogram flower in one frame.
And a close-up of the strap end, so the hole count and end stitching show.

Use this as a checklist, not a verdict on current batches.

Pros: I know what to check. Cons: I now notice tabs on every bag I see. Thanks stitch_auditor, stitchcount and patina_keeper!
